Special Education Services:

Each child attending the preschool program receives an individualized education plan (IEP) which is developed specific to his/her unique abilities and needs. This provides the blue-print for the child's entire program and allows the Story Place team to focus on each child's own goals and objectives. The classroom staff uses a modified thematic approach to facilitate each child's progress in the areas of self-help skills, social development, conceptual learning, motor abilities, and speech & language development. Quarterly progress notes will keep you up to date on your child's achievements and success in accomplishing the IEP goals. Classroom visits will familiarize you with the daily routines and activities.

Physical Therapy

Physical Therapists who work in preschool settings are responsible for monitoring children's gross motor skills. These skills include walking, running, jumping and hopping, in addition to skills which allow a child to maneuver safely throughout the school environment (i.e. walking up and down stairs, stepping over obstacles, and safely playing on playground equipment). Physical Therapy is implemented through play so that your child has fun while learning new skills to progress his/her gross motor development. We have a staff of three Physical Therapists who provide individual and group therapies in addition to classroom consultation on a weekly basis. The staff of Physical Therapists can provide you with suggestions for home activities that could enhance your child's over all development. In addition, we welcome you to observe therapy sessions at the preschool.
